Auralune Waitlist Explained

If you've been looking at Siberian kittens and wondering what it actually means to join a waitlist, you're not alone.

The word waitlist can sound as though you're simply putting your name down and waiting until a kitten eventually becomes available. That's not quite how our system works.

At Auralune, our waitlist gives families the opportunity to secure their position for a future litter, so that when kittens are born and begin to develop, families can choose their kitten according to their position on the list.

Why does Auralune have a waitlist?

Siberians and Neva Masquerades are still relatively rare cats in Asia, and there are only a limited number of responsibly bred kittens available at any given time.

At Auralune, we currently aim to have around eight litters each year. While this gives us a good number of opportunities to welcome new families, it is still a finite number of litters — and therefore a finite number of kittens.

We don't believe in producing more kittens simply to meet demand. Our breeding programme is planned carefully, with the health, wellbeing and development of our cats always coming first.

This is one of the reasons we use a waitlist. It allows families who are genuinely interested in an Auralune kitten to secure their position for a future litter, rather than having to wait until a kitten happens to become available.

It also allows us to plan ahead and build relationships with families before their kitten is even born.

There really are only so many Auralune kittens we can responsibly raise each year.

How does the Auralune waitlist work?

The process is straightforward.

You first get in touch with us and have a conversation about our Siberians, upcoming litters and what you are looking for in a kitten.

If you decide that an Auralune kitten is right for your family, you can join the waitlist by paying the reservation fee.

Your position on the waitlist determines the order in which families are invited to choose from suitable kittens.

In simple terms:

Join the waitlist → a litter is born → the kittens grow and develop → families choose in waitlist order.

What can I choose before the kittens are born?

Before a litter arrives, we are happy to discuss your preferences.

Perhaps you're hoping for a female. Maybe you've fallen in love with a particular colour or pattern. Perhaps you've always wanted a blue point or specifically a male seal lynx-point.

These preferences are important to us because they help us understand what you're looking for.

However, joining the waitlist does not guarantee a particular colour, pattern, sex or personality.

Nature has the final say!

Once the kittens are born, we can see what the litter has actually given us. As they grow, their individual personalities also begin to emerge.

That's when choosing a kitten becomes much more meaningful.

Why don't you simply reserve a specific kitten immediately?

Because a very young kitten is still developing.

A kitten's appearance can change considerably during the first weeks of life, particular for colour-point cats who are born mostly completely off-white. And their unique personalities become clearer and clearer as they grow.

We also want to make sure that the kitten you choose is a good fit for your household.

Rather than choosing solely from a photograph, we prefer to get to know the kittens individually and understand what each family is looking for.

One kitten may be confident and adventurous. Another may be quieter and observant. Another may be exceptionally people-oriented and want to be involved in absolutely everything.

There isn't necessarily a better personality — there is simply the personality that may be the best fit for your family.

What happens when the kittens are born?

Once the litter arrives, we keep families on the waitlist updated as the kittens grow.

During those early weeks, we're watching their development and getting to know them as individuals.

As their personalities and characteristics become clearer, families on the waitlist are invited to make their choices in order.

This means you aren't simply choosing the prettiest photograph.

You're choosing a real little individual whose personality, appearance and needs you have had the opportunity to understand.

Does joining the waitlist mean I have to take a kitten?

No.

We want every Auralune kitten to go to the right family, and we want every family to feel confident in their decision.

Joining the waitlist is a commitment of interest in a future Auralune kitten, but we believe the process should involve communication, questions and making an informed decision.

We are always happy to talk through the process with you and answer questions before you decide whether joining the waitlist is right for you.

Why we think a waitlist works well

For a small, home-based cattery like Auralune, a waitlist allows us to build relationships with prospective families before kittens are available.

It also means we can plan carefully rather than trying to find homes for kittens at the last minute.

Most importantly, it gives us time to get to know both sides of the equation — the families and the kittens.

Because finding the right match is about much more than colour or pattern.

It's about bringing together the right kitten and the right family.

Thinking about joining the Auralune waitlist?

If you're considering a Siberian or Neva Masquerade kitten, we'd love to hear from you.

You don't need to know exactly what you're looking for before you contact us. We are happy to talk about the breed, our cats, upcoming litters and the process of bringing an Auralune kitten into your family.

Sometimes the best place to start isn't by choosing a kitten — it's by starting a conversation.
