Our Story - The birth of Auralune Cattery

Some cats you love.
And some cats completely change what you thought a cat could be.
That's what happened to me with Siberians.
Auralune began because of my love, since childhood, of big, beautiful, fluffy cats. I only had one year of my life without cats, and it felt wrong.
But then another love came along — my son.
And for a cat lover, a big wrinkle in the plan came up. My son is allergic to cats.
Big sigh!
We managed for a few years with my existing Turkish Angora cats until they passed away from old age. Then came the conscious decision-making.
My son clearly loved cats just as much as I did. Like mother, like son. But he ended up with red, itchy and swollen eyes whenever he went near most of them.
That is how Auralune came about — from my search for a fluffy cat that would fit “my type” and my son's need not to be red, itchy and uncomfortable whenever he went near our pets. Because it turns out it is possible to have a floof for a pet that is low Fel-D, which means low allergen and more suitable for people with allergies (for more about their low allergen qualities click here).
And so my fascination with these extraordinary cats was born.
A fascination for their natural fluffy beauty, but then also their intelligence, their character, and that unmistakable Siberian presence. The more I learned about them, the more we wanted to be part of preserving what makes them so special.
Because yes, they are spectacularly beautiful. But that's only the beginning.
It's their personalities that stay with you.
Intelligent, curious, affectionate, confident and wonderfully individual — the kind of cats that become part of your life rather than simply living in your home.
But in most of Asia, Siberians remain one of the best-kept secrets. Other breeds have become widely known across the region, whereas Siberians are still surprisingly undiscovered.
Perhaps in the Western world, their Russian origins have played a part in that. In Asia, I'm not entirely sure why — but we believe more people deserve to know them!
So Auralune Cattery was born.
We breed Siberians because we believe the very best cats are not simply beautiful. They have that something you feel the moment they walk into a room — the personality, confidence and connection that makes them impossible to forget.
I almost didn't write this here because it's said so often in Siberian-loving circles: their character is often compared to that of dogs. Less standoffish than most cats. Friendly, warm, loyal, affectionate. They genuinely love company and often actively seek out affection.
In this household, I always have at least three cats actively engaging with me at any time. Not at 5am demanding food. None of my cats do that. They are seeking connection.
And their loving nature is so pure, it's easy to fall for them.
So our goal at Auralune is simple: to raise exceptional Siberians, thoughtfully and with love, and to place them with people who will fall just as completely in love with them as we did.
Because sometimes, you don't choose the cat.
The cat chooses you.
